At least five people were injured when severe storms ripped through Middle Tennessee overnight.

Palmyra in Montgomery County appearred to be the hardest hit area. Several homes there were destroyed by high winds. One family was saved after their mobile home overturned.

Three homes in Henry County were also damaged in the storm. The Red Cross is assisting many victims. No tornadoes were reported overnight.

There were reports at 12:10 a.m. of downed trees near Clarksville and reports of damage near the city fairgrounds and debris on state Highway 149.

Family Survives After Wind Overturns Mobile Home

People in parts of Montgomery County were still recovering after a wild night of violent weather that caused damage to homes and sent some people to the hospital.

Palmyra, located about 10 minutes outside of Clarksville, saw some downed power lines and trees on the ground from the storms that ripped through at about midnight.

The storms were so bad that a mobile home flipped on its side from the straight line winds that came through, and three people were trapped inside the home. The family of three was taken to the hospital.

"I started hollering for Jenn. I couldn't hear her -- I just freaked out and started reaching because I could feel the grass and the water falling on me, so I know there was an opening somewhere," Jeremy Durkin, who was trapped inside the home, said. "It was pitch black. You couldn't see anything. Jenn was sitting on the floor in front of the bed holding Jay between her legs -- hunched over."

Durkin said he soon heard the Palmyra Fire Department arriving at the home.

"All the possessions in here -- we'll get them back. Just knowing my son and my old lady were alright, that made it for me," Durkin said.

Clarksville also was damaged off Highway 14 at the Clarksville Fairgrounds. A semi was overturned, leveling pavilion where people were planning a rodeo, officials said.

According to reports, five people were injured during the storms, five mobile homes were destroyed and many residents were without power.

The Red Cross said it is helping the families in need.

Friday Afternoon Storms Cause Damage

Around 4:30 p.m. Friday, the Benton County Sheriff told the Camden Police Department they saw a tornado on Tulley Road. Also, a driver reported seeing a twister on Highway 192.

A building lost a roof on Highway 192 in the Benton County community of Holladay, Tenn.

There was also a sighting of a tornado spotted at Parkers Crossroads in Henderson County.

This weather system is part of the same storms that killed seven people in Arkansas and caused damage in Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma on Thursday.
