NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Normally there are problems with lighting in a park, it's because the lights aren't bright enough or there is not enough of them.
Video: Hot Lights Cause Concern At State ParkHowever, that's not the problem at Bicentennial Mall State Park in downtown Nashville. The lighting there is so hot that a small child was burned. Two years ago a child fell down on one of the lights and suffered second-degree burns. However, fixing the lights has been a challenge. A year ago the state proposed replacing all 200 ground lights with LED lights, which are a lower temperature and use less energy. The change would cost more than $350,000 because all wiring and fixtures would need to be replaced.City officials have thought about putting screens over the ground lights, but decided that would cause a tripping hazard. Now, they are waiting to see if next year's budget includes funding for new, safer lights.
