NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A public meeting was held Tuesday night in Old Hickory to gauge public interest in a toll bridge.About 80 people were at the meeting, which was held at Dupont Hadley Middle School by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.Last year, the state Legislature gave TDOT the OK to study the possibility of toll roads and toll bridges. The meeting on Tuesday night was about the Hadley Bend Connector Bridge, which would connect Sumner and Davidson counties over the Cumberland River. The location of the bridge is still under discussion, as the plan is in its early stages. Officials said the studies and meetings are also to see if the public wants to pay for a toll bridge. In order for any toll road or bridge to be built, the Legislature would have to approve the move. Lawmakers a few weeks ago killed a bill that would have allowed the state to begin building toll roads and bridges. Two area state representatives were at Tuesday’s meeting to hear from the public. A meeting is also scheduled for Thursday night in Hendersonville.
