NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A 500-pound iron buffalo statue was recovered on Thursday after it was stolen from a Nashville home earlier in the week.
The statue, named Bacchus, was found near the David Lipscomb High School's batting cages. It was unclear how the statue got there. It was discovered Thursday morning by a woman who was jogging at the school and reported the buffalo sighting to campus security.
Bacchus disappeared Wednesday from the Oak Hill back yard of Ken and Marilee Weingartner, who said they never heard a thing. The statue is considered a family pet because the Weingartner children like to sit and play on the animal's back.Bacchus is a little dinged up and missing a horn, but Marilee Weingartner said that's OK because she's just glad to have the statue back. The buffalo was a wedding gift for the Weingartner's 17th anniversary. Ken Weingartner thought it would be funny to have a buffalo in the front yard.
