NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Nashville-based Correction Corporation of America is under fire again. The company is being sued by a prisoner who was attacked by another prisoner at the South Central Correctional Center in Clifton in Wayne County in 2007.Prisoner Kevin Swafford said he was attacked and had his ear ripped off. Swafford, 33, said doctors were unable to reattach it because he didn't receive proper treatment after the attack. He also says the staff was negligent and his civil rights were violated.Swafford said in the lawsuit filed last Friday that he told an officer another inmate threatened him a day before the attack. Swafford claims guard Thomas Staggs overheard the threats and did nothing.CCA spokeswoman Louise Grant says the company will not comment on a pending lawsuit.CCA has had other problems in recent years including an escaped inmate from their facility in Nashville who still hasn't been found, and in 2004 an inmate was found dead and alone in her cell with a fractured skull and broken ribs. The deceased inmate's family sued CCA, but the company was cleared of any wrongdoing.
