NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A 17-year-old baby sitter is accused of beating a 6-year-old child with a studded belt.
Video: Babysitter Accused Of Beating Child Goodlettsville police said the incident happened on Friday at the Rivergate Lodge in Goodlettsville.The child's mother, Tracy Black, said when she returned home from some errands, she found that her 6-year-old boy had been beaten.
"He's 17 years old, my little boy is 6 years old. This man put bruises on my son from his shoulder down to his knees," she said.She said she found red marks and indentions on the child’s body where he had been struck. She said the marks were so severe that she rushed the child to the hospital. Black said he will be OK but that he can’t lie on his back because of the injuries.The boy also told his mother the baby sitter stripped him naked and wet his bottom before beating him."The guy stripped him down butt naked and took him into the bathroom, wet his butt and then spanked him with three different belts," Black said."Real red; he took a pretty good beating from this young man," said Goodlettsville Police Lt. Harry Bell. "A lot of pain was inflicted on this young child."Black said the teen is a family friend and that she has used him as a sitter before to watch her two children.The child told Black he was hit because he had thrown a ball and broken a pair of sunglasses, Black said.Black said what hurt the most is when her son asked, "Mom, why did you trust him?""You never know until you have your kids in there and somebody you thought you trusted, you come home and that's what you walk into, and your kids are asking why you trusted him," she said.The 17-year-old was taken into police custody and charged with felony child abuse. Police also said he has a prior record.
