NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Teen star "Hannah Montana" may have hit a sour note with one of her product lines.
Video: Hannah Montana Products May Contain Dangerous LeadAbout a dozen toys bearing her face and name appear to be contaminated with lead, according to a report, and many of the products in question are still on store shelves. The worry is with the vinyl on some of the products that one scientist called "poison plastic."
"Hannah Montana" is the familiar face for the next generation. What seems harmless may not be, according to the California-based Center for Environmental Health. The organization just released a report highlighting lead in many "Hannah Montana" products. On the list are wallets, backpacks, tote bags and purses.Researchers said the lead concentrations are above recommendations set by pediatricians."It doesn't seem like maybe we're checking things very carefully, or maybe everything's out of hand," said grandparent Stephanie Nolan. At the center of the research is the vinyl that's used in many of the items.Dr. Michael Warren is a pediatrician at Vanderbilt University Children's Hospital and said lead content in vinyl isn't always the same."Certainly that may depend on the specific manufacturing process, maybe even the specific toy. So, is it all vinyl? I don't know and can't say. I think that's something we're going to have to learn more about," said Warren. The merchandise is sold at Target, Wal-Mart and Toys R Us and has not been recalled. Related Link:
