A trained storm spotter reported trees were blown down near Dale Hollow Dam in Clay County. An emergency manager in Cannon County also reported downed trees, damaged homes and a number of outbuildings collapsed.

Trees were also blown down across DeKalb County, according to the emergency manager there.

At 2:20 p.m., resident Linda Burton said three barns were down in Jackson County in the Gladdice community, located just west of Gainesboro.

Murfreesboro resident Alvin Geroy said he spotted rotation in the clouds during the storms just after 2 p.m. He said the wind was strong enough to blow over a 50-gallon container filled with water.

Heavy rain Wednesday morning caused an urban and small stream flood advisory to be issued for areas of middle Tennessee, including Davidson County. This alert expired at 2:30 p.m.

By noon most of the wind and rain had moved out of Nashville.

Police reported that the heavy rain caused a lot of accidents and power outages throughout Davidson County.

Nashville Electric Service's Web site indicated that fewer than 200 people were still without power by midday.

Strong Storms Hit West Tennessee

The heavy rains and strong winds have also caused minor power outages, damaged buildings and downed trees in West Tennessee.

The National Weather Service gauged winds exceeded 60 mph early Wednesday morning in Dyersburg, as torrential downpours continued to move east through the state and raise the risk of flooding.

Authorities said the Lake County Courthouse in Tiptonville sustained damage when several gutters were blown off the building.

A tractor-trailer was blown over on U.S. Highway 51 in Dyersburg. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency says no storm-related injuries have been reported.
