NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Mayor Karl Dean is demanding better oversight and security of residents’ private information.Dean’s demands come after two laptops were stolen from the Metro Election Commission last Christmas.Everyone who works with sensitive information will now have to take information security training.Dean is also establishing an information security advisory board to study the best way for Metro government to store electronic and hard copy data.
This is all the direct result of an audit Dean called for in January after a homeless man confessed to breaking into the election commission office and stealing the laptops for cash. The laptops contained the Social Security numbers of every registered voter in Davidson County.
