SMYRNA, Tenn. -- A local school system is dealing with hit lists, and they believe they are coming from an eighth-grade student.
Video: Hit List Found At Smyrna School"If I didn't have my friends around me, I probably would've had a heart attack or stroke because I was so scared," said parent Frances Lopez.Lopez said she was trying to stay calm after learning about the hit list after it was discovered on Thursday at her daughter's school, Rock Springs Middle in Smyrna.
The school called parents Thursday afternoon with a pre-recorded message telling about what happened."It was determined that no specific student names were listed. Please reassure your students and be reassured this incident is concluded to today with all students safe at our school. Thank You," said the recorded message.Rutherford County School officials couldn't appear on camera for this story, but Channel 4 learned that the list contained two first names and was written by an eighth-grader.The school could not tell WSMV how they learned of the list or if the names are those of students.Even though things are under control, Lopez said she is angry. When she tried to call the school Thursday afternoon to get more information, there was no answer. She feels there should have been some immediate accountability considering the nature of the message."They could've had one person even to answer the phones to let parents know their kid is OK," said Lopez.School officials said the point of the phone call was dispel any rumors and to prevent additional concern.Like many area school systems, Rutherford County recently purchased a phone system to easily notify parents in the case of an emergency. The student is being disciplined but has not been expelled from the school. The girl's mother was expected to meet with a police officer.
