NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- They call themselves the Disaster Divas, a half-dozen young middle Tennessee women with a heart for romance and memories.
Video: 'Disaster Divas' Collect Prom Dresses For Tornado VictimsThe group is doing what they can to soften the blow of the deadly tornadoes that struck the state on Feb. 5 by collecting prom and wedding dresses along with matching shoes and jewelry. The six young women are all either married, engaged or dating a man from Smith County. They met by accident, but they said they have a drive to give every high school girl who was affected by the tornado a beautiful prom dress. Not to far removed from high school themselves, the women are not too old to remember how much prom matters to young girls."It's kinda like the precursor to a girl's wedding, a prom. You get to go get your hair done, makeup. You get this big beautiful dress. It's a memorable time. I'll never forget my prom," said one of the members of the Disaster Divas. The group has collected 100 dresses in just seven days from sorority sisters, co-workers, church friends. But its not prom that first made this group begin the campaign. It was a woman named Jolene Randal of Castalian Springs woman who lost her wedding dress in the tornado. The divas hopes Randal will be there when the clothing is distributed next month."I hope she comes and tries on some of the wedding dresses we get. Every girl has dreamed about that special day and when you plan and put some much effort and sweat and tears into it, and it just gets blown away in a heart beat. Seconds destroyed these peoples lives," said one of the divas. The dress giveaway will be held March 22nd at Central Elementary in Lafayette. There will be dressing rooms and full-length mirrors and dresses. The school gym will become the biggest prom dress store in Tennessee for a few hours. Related Link:
