NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- For days, people who were put out by the deadly tornadoes have rummaged through the rubble of what used to be their homes.
Video: FedEx To Donate Boxes To Tornado Relief EffortSalvaging what they could, they now face the dilemma of where to put their belongings now that they have no home left to store them. When disaster strikes, some needs immediately come to mind, like food, clothes, baby supplies and people have responded to those needs in a big way.
Terry Gillim sees the need for cardboard boxes every day at the shelter he operates at Lafayette Church of Christ. He said as people recover pieces of their lives, they need something sturdy in which to place their belongings."Anything they can kind of recover from the storms is a blessing to that family," said Gillim. When word of this need got to Channel 4, problem solver Chris Tatum said he knew he could help. All it took was one phone call to FedEx, and the problem was resolved.Right away the company promised to send a whole truck-load of big boxes to Macon County and said they'll be there by Wednesday."I think it's a great service they're providing," said Gillim. The big double-walled boxes that FedEx donated are sturdier than an average box.Victims who need the boxes can pick them up after Wednesday at the Lafayette Church of Christ.
