NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A 2-year-old young Iraqi girl who was given a new chance at life in Nashville received a very special visit Sunday morning.
Video: Iraq Child Receives Treatment At VandyThe Iraqi ambassador to the United States dropped by to check on Amenah Doyle.She will undergo surgery on Feb. 13 to correct a potentially deadly heart defect. Vanderbilt Children's Hospital is performing the surgery free of charge, a hospital official said.
The child could be released on Wednesday to relax at home with her host family from Franklin Chapel.The ambassador said he was very grateful for the attention Amenah has received. He said people should look for every opportunity to save a life."By saving her life, they will have left a mark, not only on that family, but on the entire community. So that is really the best way to end the war and the best way to fight terrorism, is to be on the side of the people, and this is a shining example of that," ambassador Samir Shakir M. Sumaida'ie said.Amenah was discovered by a group of American soldiers who raised the money and cut through the necessary red tape to get her stateside for the treatment she needs.One of the soldiers is a doctor at the Children's Hospital.If you would like to donate to help pay for her medical bills, please send payments to the address below:Amenah Fund
