BRENTWOOD, Tenn. -- Firefighters responded to a house fire on Old Smyrna Road in the Brentwood area on Wednesday.

Firefighters said that when they arrived, they saw fire coming from the basement of the home.

Officials had the road blocked off while firefighters tried to put out the blaze.

The homeowner was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered while trying to rescue a dog from the house. He is expected to recover, officials said.
