State Rep. Rob Briley pleaded guilty on Monday to driving under the influence and will serve five weekends in jail.

The case stemmed from a September incident in which Briley led Watertown police on a 100-mph chase. Earlier in the chase, he had struck a family’s van in DeKalb County.

Under terms of the agreement, Briley will receive a pre-trial diversion on the charge of evading arrest, which essentially means the charges will be dismissed if he avoids trouble with the law for two years.

Briley's lawyer said his client is relieved it's over.

The state representative will lose his driver’s license for one year but will be eligible to apply for a restricted one. He will also have a criminal record but will not be a listed as a convicted felon.

Briley will still be able to continue to serve in the legislature, but the state representative still faces lesser charges in DeKalb County.
