NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- There is a new beginning for Virginia Trimble Ritter, whose 9-year-old daughter Marcia was the victim of one of Nashville's most notorious unsolved cases.
Video: Virginia Trimble Retires As Cold Case Warms UpShe's not only retiring from her job at American Constructors on Friday, she's also moving away from Nashville. As this is happening, it appears her daughter's case may finally be solved.Ritter was showered with flowers, cards, candy, hugs and kisses all day. Although she has suffered for the past 32 years, somehow it never destroyed her life.
In fact, friends said she has comforted more victims’ families than anyone can count.“Virginia is just a great example for everybody. She’s lived every mother's nightmare, and there's not an ounce of bitterness in that woman, an ounce of hatred. (She has) forgiveness and this wonderful Christian spirit of wanting to help other people,” said a co-worker of Ritter.Ritter is moving north to restore a 130-year-old home. How ironic is it that she is leaving Nashville perhaps just days before her daughter's 32-year-old slaying is solved?"It’s the right time. It’s the timing for Marcia’s murder to be solved. It’s the timing for me to leave after 20 years in my wonderful job," said Ritter.Jerome Barrett was arrested on Nov. 20 in connection with the 1975 slaying of Vanderbilt student Sarah Des Prez. Des Prez was found dead by her father and brother at her apartment.Police confirmed that the DNA evidence used to make that arrest is being used to determine whether Barrett may be connected in the slaying of Trimble, which occurred three weeks earlier. If Barrett killed Trimble, Ritter said she hopes he will tell the truth and tell her what really happened.
