NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two people accused in the slayings of two employees at a Nashville pizzeria waived their right to appear at a court hearing on Friday.
Video: Courtroom Packed For Hearing In Pizzeria Slayings Case Jason Bobo, 21, and Crystle Rutherford, 18, are accused of robbing and killing manager Chris Caris and employee Joshua Cole in October at Bellacino's Pizzeria on White Bridge Road in west Nashville.Both Rutherford and Bobo, along with Misty Judd, who is accused of obstructing police, waived their rights to a preliminary hearing.
The judge bound the case over to a grand jury. It will go immediately to a Davidson County grand jury, which will decide whether to take the case to trial.Bobo was a former employee who had been fired after he was accused of stealing from the business earlier this year.Family Members Await JusticeOn Friday, Cole’s grandfather, Dwight Cole, cried following the court appearance."Man I have never, never, never in my mind imagined that something like this could happen to good people. So it's time for justice to prevail,” he said. “He had a lot to give. He deserves justice.”Cole wore his grandson's ninth-grade football championship ring around his neck.“He could walk in my home, not say a word, and I would know that he was there,” he said.The trial is expected to begin sometime next year, and prosecutors said they are still debating whether to seek the death penalty or life imprisonment.Caris was engaged to be married to his girlfriend, Marianne Purcell, and was set to embark on a professional fishing career.
