NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Business and city leaders said they have a plan to makeover the Nolensville Road area.
Video: Leaders Plan Facelift For Section Of Nolensville RoadWhen most people think of well-landscaped, cozy Nashville neighborhoods, Nolensville Road may not come to mind. But leaders said they have a plan to drastically makeover the landscape of the busy street from Interstate 440 to the Nashville Zoo.Aurora Bakery is like an edible United Nations where pastries from all over are at the table. For Patricia Paiva, diversity is a key ingredient in her bakery. She said she hopes it will also surround her bakery.“We just want a little more diversity in businesses,” she said.Paiva said she is all for a community improvement plan that aims to make Nolensville Road a little more like Hillsboro Village with coffee shops and a wide variety of retail and possibly condos.Councilwoman Anna Page started working with the planning department on the project in March and would like to see a lot of industrial land and used car lots leave and more sidewalks come in.“It would help a lot for people to feel like it’s more pedestrian friendly,” she said.Another thing organizers would like to see change is parking methods. Instead of parking in front of stores, they said they want parking to be out in the back and landscaping out front.“The things we want to change are sort of to get back to more of a neighborhood feel,” Paiva said.Paiva said all the ethnic spots that make Nolensville Road what it is would stay. Leaders just want to mix things up and give it a new flavor, she said. The last community meeting on the improvement plan will be in December. It will then go to the planning department for approval. If given the green light, changes to Nolensville Road likely won't be noticeable for more than 10 years.
