Nashville police charged social studies teacher Holly Hatcher, 25, with six counts after she admitted having sex with the teenager on six occasions in the last two months. She was arrested on Thursday.

Police affadavits said the teenager drove to her home for the encounters and that it was consensual sex. One time the student told his parents he was at work, the affidavit said. Another time the two went to the Nashville Zoo before returning to her home.

"At the end of the day, incidents like this occur because of bad decisions made by individuals. There are no justifications for this type of behavior, and we will continue to take steps to reduce and hopefully eliminate it from any future situations," said the spokesman of Sumner County Schools, Steve Doremus.

Hatcher has been released on a $6,000 bond in Davidson County and a $15,000 bond in Sumner County, and has resigned from the school, where she also coached volleyball and softball.

Doremus stressed that on the very first day for new teachers, the school stresses the conduct that teachers should abide with students. Doremus said that Hatcher attended that meeting.

The latest allegation of sexual misconduct by a teacher comes after an Associated Press review of records from the State Board of Education showed 50 educators whose professional licenses in Tennessee were denied or revoked from 2001 through 2005 for sexual misconduct. Minors were the victims in at least 69 percent of those cases.
