The so called "Bredesen Bunker," which involves an underground entertainment facility, has some Oak Hill neighbors upset about its construction.

Gov. Phil Bredesen and First Lady Andrea Conte don't live day-to-day in the executive residence on Curtiswood Lane, but some of Conte's plans for that home are coming under criticism from neighbors.

For 57 years, the Oak Hill area of Nashville has taken pride in having Tennessee's first family in the neighborhood.

However, neighborly disputes that involved something underground have now surfaced.

Lorelee Gawaluck is among several residents on Curtiswood Lane concerned over Andrea Conte's plans for a 13,000 square foot underground facility called Conservation Hall.

"That is enormous. We want the project stopped,” said Gawaluck.

Neighbors worry blasting could harm foundations and destroy decades of old trees.

"Those beautiful trees bring to mind everything beautiful about Nashville and the state,” said Gawaluck.

Gawaluck wrote Conte, listing concerns about the project. Conte is currently in China but wrote back saying, "I place a high priority on maintaining the residential character of the neighborhood."

"It’s a very ill conceived plan,” said neighbor Eugene Lotochinski.

Lotochinski isn't convinced Conservation Hall will blend in with the neighborhood and neither is the city.

Oak Hill's mayor wrote a letter calling the hall an "institutional use" of the property and he raised concern that the city is being left out and the state is in charge of overseeing renovations.

For a couple years now Conte's been working on a privately funded $12 million renovation of the mansion. Neighbors feel this part of the renovation needs modification.

Conte has called a community meeting for Nov. 1. to try to answer neighbors' concerns.

Channel 4 repeatedly tried to speak to the state architect about this project but the station’s calls were not returned.

Plans for the project have not been finalized.
