MALIBU, Calif. -- Fires are flaring quicker than firefighters can fight them in southern California, and a country singer’s home is among those in the path.
Video: Country Singer's Home Threatened By Calif. FiresAbout 250,000 in San Diego have been ordered to evacuate while 27 fires burn from San Diego to north of Los Angeles.Former Nashville resident and country artist Tanya Tucker lives in the Malibu area while her daughter is in acting school in Los Angeles.
Tucker’s home is about a quarter-mile from the center of the fire.Tucker’s 18-year-old daughter Presley encountered the fires early Sunday morning as flames began to draw dangerously close to their home.Presley and Tucker’s four dogs were safely evacuated but her memorabilia is still in the home.“Of course we took most of my stage clothes because I’ll be working out of California going on tour. And, you know, there was a little bit of memorabilia, not as mush as I’d have in storage back in Nashville, but I did have some Leroy Newman paintings and some things that are kind of special to me, some old pictures. It’s just hard to think of anything else but your family,” Tucker said. There is word that Tucker’s guest house was consumed by the fire, but firefighters went the extra distance to save the main house.“Thank God to the firefighters. They’re, I think No. 156. No. 156 is all I can remember. They slept at the house, they watered it down. They were taking pool water out of the pool. They really, really went the extra mile for our house,” she said.Tucker said she is grateful that her daughter and dogs made it out safely.“And I have my children, and there’s nothing that compares with that. As long as I have that to hold onto, I’ll be willing to lose any possessions I might have,” she said.Tucker’s neighbors include Leonardo Dicaprio and Sting.Tucker sold her Nashville home for a reported $15 million. She said she is closely watching TV coverage of the fire and that no one is allowed into the fire zone because the fire is still at zero containment.
