Channel 4 News has obtained the video recorded Saturday of state Rep. Rob Briley's arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Briley, a Nashville Democrat, was charged with driving under the influence and evading arrest after two separate incidents over the weekend, according to police reports. Safety Department spokesman Mike Browning said Briley's sport utility vehicle on Saturday evening struck the rear of a truck in DeKalb County east of Nashville, then turned around and drove away.

Police records show Briley was arrested about 15 minutes later in neighboring Wilson County after leading police on a high-speed chase on charges of driving under the influence, evading arrest and violation of the implied consent law.

Officers said they found a near-empty bottle of 90 proof bourbon and plastic cup in his car.

After the stop, Briley became emotional in the police video.

According to the tape, Briley was lamenting his pending divorce while in the back of a Wilson County police car.

"They (expletive) ruined my life a week ago. Take me out and shoot me," he said.

Briley was asked to take a breath or blood test to determine if there was alcohol or drugs in his system, but refused.

Refusing to take the test is a crime. As Briley was taken to the Wilson County Jail to be booked, police said he kicked at the patrol car door and window.

Watertown's chief of police said Briley told his officers he was a state representative but that got him no special treatment.

"I'm proud of the job my officers did. They did it by the book,” said Chief Seth Norris.
