NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nashville fire crews responded to a chemical fire in south Nashville Wednesday.
Officials said the fire happened around 9 a.m. at a paint plant on Industry Street. The Nashville Fire Department prevented the fire from getting out of control, according to officials.A Fire Department representative said a chemical tank containing flammable liquid ignited at Perk Products, releasing toxic smoke into the air.Firefighters said they aggressively attacked the fire to prevent it from spreading to another building and releasing more smoke into the air.“This could have been really bad, environmentally. We’re still working with the water department to make sure the contents stay within the building. But, they saved about 75 to 80 percent of the building. The fire was contained to about 10 percent of the building (to) a couple of large industrial tanks filled with what we think is xylene at this time,” said Assistant Fire Chief Lee Bergeron. No evacuations were ordered in the area.
