TBI Conducts Search In Police Union Case

TBI Seizes Documents, Computers From Teamsters Headquarters

The investigation involving a former Metro officer and the Teamsters union continues.

Tuesday, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents took away evidence from the local Teamsters headquarters.

TBI officials said they expect the evidence to show others conspired in burglary and spying.

Among the items the agents confiscated were a computer and a box of other documents.

Former Metro officer current Teamster official Calvin Hullet is fighting charges of burglary.

He is accused of trying to spy on a Fraternal Order of Police youth camp using cameras for surveillance.

Officials said they hoped that the search of the headquarters will prove that Hullet did not act alone.

“We do believe that those documents led us here for a reason, and that’s what we’re trying to find out today,” said TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm.

The Teamsters and the FOP have had a contentious relationship since February 2006 when local Teamsters 327 took over as union head for police.

“The Fraternal Order of Police is right in the middle of the decertification process,” said FOP attorney Brock Parks.

The FOP said they believe that Hullet planted the cameras in a smear campaign hoping to show camp counselors using alcohol.

Two cameras were removed from the FOP grounds in Mount Juliet two weeks ago. Soon after, Hullet was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary.

“I’m not going to sit here and comment at this time whether my client did or did not do anything. That is the allegation,” said Hullet’s attorney Alan Poindexter.

Parks said he believes the search warrant means more people will soon be answering to charges.
