Detectives in Indiana are trying to find out if Bruce Mendenhall is linked to the slaying of 43-year-old Sherry Drinkard of Gary, Ind.

Mendenhall has also been charged in the death of Sara Nicole Hulbert. Hulbert’s body was found at a truck stop in Nashville.

According to the Lake Station, Ill., police chief, 100 different swabs were taken inside Mendenhall's truck.

After 23 of those swabs were tested, officials said DNA links Mendenhall to five slayings.

The cab of Mendenhall's truck was spattered with blood, according to Metro Detective Pat Postiglione. He said that's how he first broke the case.

Detectives from Lake Station traveled to Nashville over the weekend to meet with Metro detectives.

They're trying to solve the slaying of Drinkard. Police said Drinkard was shot through the head and dumped at a Lake Station truck stop.

Lake Station detectives said that blood found in Mendenhall's truck matched five different women and that they're waiting for more tests to see if one of those women is Drinkard.

They also collected DNA evidence from under Drinkard's fingernails and are waiting to see if it matches a swab from Mendenhall.

Police said Mendenhall has implicated himself in the deaths of Drinkard, who was found in Lake Station, Ill., on Feb. 22, Symantha Winters, who was found in Lebanon on June 6, Hulbert, who was found June 26, Lucille Carter, who was found in Birmingham on July 1 and Deborah Ann Glover, who was found in Suwanee, Ga.

All five women were known to be involved in prostitution, police said.

The day before he was arrested in Nashville, Mendenhall told detectives he had killed a woman near Indianapolis but no body has been found, detectives said.
