MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Murfreesboro residents had their first chance to speak out on the state's controversial program for dumping low-level radioactive trash. Some said the Tennessee Department of Conservation has chosen an obscure location many people aren't familiar with and may not have the room to hold a crowd. The I-team first uncovered the little-known disposal program in May.The state has since added to its Web site explaining what sort of radioactive rubble it has been accepting at landfills for almost 20 years.Channel 4 has also analyzed the results of the first-ever tests for radioactivity at all five landfills that accept the nuclear waste. For the three key indicators the state was looking at, no landfill tests were higher across the board than Middle Point Landfill in Murfreesboro.Tuesday’s meeting began at 5:30 p.m. at the Fleming Training Center near the sewage treatment plant in Murfreesboro.
