False 911 Calls Get More Costly

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Officials said repeated false 911 calls are about to get more costly.The false calls will now cost $2,500 if repeated calls are made. The fine for one false call is $50.The hike is part of a new amendment to the Emergency Communications District Law.The law will make the false call a class A misdemeanor.
Officials said they hope the law will cut down on prank calls or even non-emergency calls that delay rescue crews from potential life-threatening situations.The law went into effect July 1.
