NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Police around the country are contacting Metro police to inquire if unsolved slayings in their jurisdiction might have been committed by Bruce Mendenhall.Video:
Georgia Police Try To Link Slaying To Mendenhall Mendenhall is the trucker arrested in Nashville last week who police said has implicated himself in six killings.Mendenhall has been charged in the death of Sara Nicole Hulbert. Hulbert’s body was found at a truck stop in Nashville.Police are also looking to link Mendenhall to the death of Samantha Winters. Winters’ body was found dead at a truck stop in Lebanon.Mendenhall's truck is at Tennessee Bureau of Investigation headquarters, and police said it could contain evidence related to cases that have puzzled police in other states.Police in Suwanee, Ga., said they hadn't investigated a homicide in more than 40 years. Then someone dumped the body of Debra Ann Glover in the side parking lot of a Motel 6, they said. There were no leads in the case, and no one saw anything, according to investigators."For the first one in 44 years, this was a tough one to crack,” said Suwanee police Cpt. Kent Byers.Suwanee authorities are in Nashville following a lead in the January death. Officials said Mendenhall told Metro police he killed Glover."I 've got a feeling this might be a real good suspect. He’s a truck driver, real good indication of why we had such a hard time finding him,” Byers said.Glover's grandmother said she had been shot from the back of the neck. The two middle Tennessee women were also shot. The trucker's alleged confession has touched off a storm of activity in open slaying cases across the south and Midwest and not just in the cases Mendenhall has made statements about, according to police. In Indianapolis, investigators spent four days searching for the body of a woman police said Mendenhall told them he killed Wednesday."We were canvassing the fields, the trash Dumpsters, the out buildings, anything that could conceal a corpse,” said Lt. Kevin Kelly.Officials said Mendenhall mentioned specific locations including White Castle, Hardee's and McDonald's restaurants, but authorities have found nothing. Two other jurisdictions are looking at Mendenhall: Birmingham is in connection with the death of Lucille Carter, shot in July, and Lake Station, Ind., is in the shooting death of Sherry Drinkard, whose body was found at a truck stop on Feb. 22.
