Video: Drought Puts Doubt In July 4 CelebrationsThis is the first year the state is educating people with a public service announcement from Bredesen. It's also the first time in nearly 20 years that the Department of Forestry has gotten involved.
Representatives are distributing pamphlets to make sure that people buying fireworks go home with a list of safety tips.“We distribute these all over the county to each permanent and temporary fireworks stand to hopefully bring down the amount of fires that will probably be happening due to fireworks and our dry conditions,” said Roy Steele of the Tennessee Department of Forestry.Weeks without significant rainfall have the state and local fire departments on high alert.Fireworks vendors in Sumner County said that so far sales are right on target compared to this time last year. Some said they are even selling more.
