LYNCHBURG, Tenn. -- The spring from which Jack Daniel's Distillery gets its water is threatened by a recent drought.
Video: Jack Daniels Whiskey Could Be Hurt By DroughtThe whiskey can’t be made without water, and the drought is creating problems for the more than 100-year-old distillery.“We’d like to have rain. We got 1/2 inch last night,” said distillery manager Jimmy Bedford.
To make good whiskey, a distillery representative said, you need good iron-free water like what flows from nearby Cave Spring.Because of drought conditions, the water supply is dwindling. But Bedford said to not sound alarms just yet.“Think about it: This cave has been here over (a) million years (and) it hasn't gone dry yet,” he said. The Cave Spring water is being conserved now to make whiskey and nothing else.
