Franklin Homeowners Upset By Water Restrictions

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Drought conditions in middle Tennessee are getting worse, and the scope continues to spread throughout the southeast.

One of Franklin, Tenn.'s, four water districts is reporting a shortage of water, which has caused the city to ask homeowners to cut back their usage until further notice.Customers who rely on water from the Milcrofton Utility District were told on May 25 that they could not water any outdoor vegetation.Fourteen days later, some residents are getting the opportunity to water their lawns two days a week. However, some homeowners are concerned these restrictions have already hurt their landscaping."They told us we could water Tuesdays and Thursdays after 7 p.m., but before 7 a.m., for two hours. That's helping a little bit, but the damage is done. It was a good two weeks that we couldn't do anything," said homeowner Jill Nenuz.Landscapers advised that homeowners use one to one and a half inches of water each session to keep their yards healthy. They can place a simple rain gauge in their yard to keep track of how much water they use.White House, Tenn., is also having a problem due to the dry weather. For the first time in the city's history, they are having to buy water from Gallatin.Ag Department Warns Of Fire RiskThe state Agriculture Department said the risk of fires is extremely high while the drought drags on.Clarksville officials have issued a burn ban.
