NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Fire officials in Nashville say a home exploded early Thursday morning with three people inside. No one was seriously hurt.
Channel 4 News' helicopter, Air 4, flew over the scene in Antioch and showed that the house was completely destroyed. The family jumped from a second-story window to escape, and neighbors rushed to the scene to help."The two people were jumping out the window. I ran down there to see if she needed help," said neighbor Chris Rowland.Neighbor Curtis Desimone helped save the family's dogs."I guess it was adrenaline that took over, and I managed to (get) her dogs over the fence," he said. The home was destroyed by the blast and subsequent fire.Officials said a man in the home said he smelled gas and went to wake the others. Before they could get out, the home blew up.For fear of a secondary explosion because of the natural gas, firefighters said they had to let the fire burn itself out until the gas could be shut off.Nashville Gas was investigating what may have ignited the explosion. They said 59 homes in the area were without gas Thursday afternoon but service would likely be restored later in the day.
