McMINNVILLE, Tenn. -- There was perhaps no one more anxious to go to work Monday morning than Mary Winkler.
Winkler could have spent the rest of her life in prison for murder, but instead she was moving on with her life.Winkler was convicted Thursday of voluntary manslaughter in the death of her minister husband. She was charged also with first-degree murder.Monday was Winkler’s first full day back at Cleaners Express in McMinnville after the trial.McMinnville residents also said they were ready to move on.“If she gets time, let her serve her time. If she gets out, let her go on (and) live her life,” said resident Carolyn Frasier.Winkler’s future still contains unanswered questions about how long she will serve and whether or not she will get custody of her children. She is scheduled to be sentenced in May.Winkler was so anxious to return to work, her boss told Channel 4 News that she offered to open the store Saturday morning. When asked by Channel 4 if she had a good weekend, Winkler said, “Yes.”
