FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Residents living near Liberty Creek in Franklin are finally seeing some progress.Hazardous materials crews spent Friday removing more chemicals from the water and air at the creek.The waterway has been contaminated by chemicals like acetone, which is normally used in paint thinners. The chemicals leaked from the nearby Egyptian Lacquer plant.The company has apologized for the spill and assisted in Friday's cleanup.
Residents said they are happy the smell has dissipated but are afraid the incident could have a lasting impact."If anybody wants to sell their home it'll be hard. Refinancing is probably going to be hard with these trucks and the hazmat suits walking through the yard," said Robert Hostettler, who lives near Liberty Creek.The drum removal was expected to be finished on Friday, but workers still plan to continue testing the ground water near the plant.Liberty Creek empties into the Harpeth River.
