NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Is Perry March's life in danger, already? It sure sounds like it.
Video: Word On The Street (3/12/07)March was transferred a week ago to the West Tennessee Maximum Security Prison at Henley. He was at the minimum security North West Correctional Complex in Tiptonville.Prison officials were alerted several days ago by his lawyer that there had been threats on March's life.
Kathy Breitowich, March's sister, an Indiana dentist, said she was talking on the phone with her imprisoned brother, when she heard some prisoners yelling in the background: "Kill that Jew."Prior to his murder trial, March converted from the Jewish faith to Christianity.John Herbison, March's attorney, said inmates associated with the Aryan Nation racist hate gang are not happy with March being at the prison.March, according to a prison spokeswoman, has been placed in administrative segregation at the high security institution. She would only say it was for security reasons for both March and the prison. She declined to go into details, saying an investigation is underway and it is confidential. One of the unanswered questions is why was March, now serving a 56-year murder conviction, transferred from the minimum security prison to a maximum security prison.Herbison said he has heard that the transfer was on instructions from Nashville. But who in Nashville would give those instructions and why?During his trial in Nashville for murdering his wife Janet March, he was held locally at the Charles Bass Correctional facility. After his conviction, he was transferred to the Northwest facility and then transferred 10 days ago to the maximum security penitentiary.March was returned to Nashville last week for a custody hearing over his two children at Metro Juvenile Court. He was returned almost immediately to the West Tennessee facility.Nobody is saying what precautions are being taken to prevent March from being harmed or possibly killed at the prison. But for now, he's locked up in a single maximum security cell.
