Reva Hill, 84, died after the blaze broke out around 4 a.m. when the temperature in the city was in the low teens.

The victim's daughter, Reva Roland, 64, was also in the house and escaped without serious injury, authorities said. She told investigators she awakened and smelled smoke.

Roland said she was unable to get to her mother because of thick smoke and flames coming from the older woman's bedroom.

An investigation into the cause of the fire was still open Monday afternoon, but officials said they did not suspect foul play.

Nashville has had three fatal fires in the past week, officials said.
