Dickson Co. Landfill Fight Continues

The long fight over the Dickson County landfill is taking a new turn.

The county commission wants to ban the digging of any new water wells nearby, but environmentalists said that's not enough.

“Nobody wants a well dug where there's such pollution like this, but that is a cosmetic change and we're saying to Dickson County, we're saying to the state of Tennessee, ‘Clean up this landfill first, then prevent the wells,’” said Bruce Wood of Bring Urban Recycling To Nashville Today.

Wood is among those protesting how Dickson County is handling the landfill issue.

Pollution of the ground and water supply near the site has long been suspected of causing cancer and other diseases in neighbors.

One woman claims the methane gas caused her house to explode but said the county won't give her any answers.

"They use a cover up now that they cannot talk about anything because of litigation. I'm not in litigation, I want my property safe,” said Mary Wright.

The county commission plans to discuss the well issue at a meeting Tuesday night.
