Pamela Rogers Asks For Lighter Sentence

A former teacher serving eight years in prison for having sex with a student and later violating probation by sending him sexually explicit photos asked for a reduced sentence, saying a psychological condition caused the behavior.

A motion filed in McMinnville on behalf of Pamela Joan Turner, formerly Pamela Rogers, says she suffered public humiliation and the "emotional torture of knowing that she has disappointed" her family and others.

The filing by attorney Peter Strianse of Nashville contends the 29-year-old Rogers had a psychological condition that "significantly contributed" to the offenses.

The motion was filed in advance of a hearing scheduled for Wednesday on additional charges of exploiting a minor. Those charges stem from her sending photos to the young teenager.

Warren County Circuit Judge Bart Stanley in July ignored the former teacher's sobbing pleas for mercy and sentenced her, saying she had "done everything except" show she wanted to rehabilitate herself.

A clinical psychologist hired by Rogers' family testified in July that Rogers should be treated for "sexual addiction."

The prosecutor in the Warren County case, District Attorney General Dale Potter, was defeated in an August election.
