Police said they were involved in a high-speed chase with Matthew Holland, 24, when his car collided with another vehicle.

The accident happened around midnight at the corner of Nissan Drive and Enon Springs Road.

Investigators said Smyrna police pulled over an SUV driven by Holland that then sped off.

Authorities said Holland ran a red light, then hit a car containing four people.

The driver of that car, 23-year-old Jason Felts of Manchester, was killed.

The passengers in Felts' car were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a Smyrna hospital.

Holland was not injured in the collision.

Police said he will face several charges including: aggravated vehicular homicide, three counts of vehicular assault, DUI, driving on a revoked license and felony fleeing an officer.

Holland has a previous criminal background including at least 25 prior charges in Robertson County alone.

He was being held on $100,000 bond in Rutherford County.

A friend of Felts' said she was shocked by his death.

"I've known him, with my sister going to school with him. He's been over here a couple of times to the apartment and hung out. He was a good person. It's sad that something had to happen like that," said Kathleen Casbon.
