NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Voters poured into the polls on Thursday for the last day of early voting for the Metro runoff election. Special Section: Nashville Mayoral Election Election offiicals said more than 41,195 total people had voted early for the election, marking a new record for early voting for Davidson County.Election officials said 5,500 voted on Thursday by 5 p.m. on Thursday alone.
Dean Meets With Serpas; Clement To Meet With Black Journalists Karl Dean met Thursday with Metro Police Chief Ronal Serpas. The meeting isn't being touted as an official endorsement, but they did talk about juvenile crime and other public safety issues.Dean's opponent, Bob Clement, has been officially endorsed by the Teamsters union and the Fraternal Order of Police.There was some controversy earlier this week when it was suggested that Clement would fire Serpas if elected. His campaign has denied that claim.Clement was scheduled to meet with the Nashville Association of Black Journalists at their forum Thursday night.The actual runoff election date is Tuesday, Sept. 11.
