NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Metro voters will have more chances to head to the polls early in the for September mayoral runoff election. The Davidson County Election Commission decided Thursday morning to open seven additional early voting sites.
It took the election commission about five minutes to reach the decision after voting unanimously to open seven more voting sites for the runoff. The locations will be open for six days.
The original plan was to only use the downtown headquarters, but several candidates and board members pushed for more locations.Mayoral candidate Bob Clement was in the meeting on Wednesday, as well as representatives from candidate Karl Dean's campaign in support of the measure. They and all those in favor said this will cut down on the long lines the city saw in July and also make it easier for the elderly to vote."Sometimes its difficult for people to get downtown to the only early voting site. By having the other voting sites, it should make it easier for everyone to vote," said Election Commissioner Lynn Greer. The commission said the additional sites will cost $70,000 to $80,000, but they said that shouldn’t be a problem because they were able to save some funds in previous elections.Early Voting Locations
