The candidates are required to release how much they raised, how much they spent and how they spent it.

The man with the most money left for this race is former Rep. Bob Clement.

Since April 1, he's raised $489,000, spent $240,000 and has the biggest campaign chest of any mayoral candidate with $816,000 left to spend.

The money comes from lots of several-thousand-dollar contributors.

However, in the mayor's race, he's been outspent this quarter by Metro Law Director Karl Dean. Dean raised $522,000 and spent $673,000. He has $49,000 left. His finance reports show he spent more than $500,000 on campaign ads.

Dean also lent himself about $300,000 this quarter.

Buck Dozier is in third place as far as how much he's spent this quarter. He raised $115,000 and spent $161,000 and has $157,000 left.

David Briley has the second-largest balance to spend for the mayoral contest. He raised $208,000 and spent $144,000 and has $215,000 left.

Howard Gentry spent less so far in this race than any major candidate at $77,000. He raised $122,000 this quarter and has $131,000 left.

Kenneth Eaton has less than $1,000 left in a campaign that raised only $1,106 this quarter.

Cheryl Lynn Tisdale raised nothing and spent nothing.

Does money really matter?

Karl Dean's campaign started running ads early. His treasurer said his opponents only have two weeks to catch up.

Bob Clement has a lot of name recognition from his years in Congress and wide support from all the people from all walks of life who donated to his campaign.
