David Briley received his bachelor’s degree in history from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. After Georgetown, Briley traveled to Latin America and did volunteer work as a teacher. Briley graduated from the Golden State University School of Law in California in 1995. Briley practices law in Nashville and has served on the Metro Council for seven years.
Family
Briley, 43, met his wife, Jodie, while in law school. He and Jodie reside in Nashville with their son, Sam. Briley’s grandfather, Beverly Briley, served as Metro Nashville’s first mayor. Briley’s brother, Rob Briley, represents the 52nd District in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
Agenda
Briley said that his first act as mayor will be to continue Nashville’s strong sense of community. He said that schools, neighborhoods, community activities and services need to continue to be connected. Briley said that it is “imperative” that Nashville spends its funds responsibly. He said that since he has served on the Metro Council, audits have saved $28 million.Briley said that as mayor, he will work to ensure that Nashville’s government is open to the people.Education, Briley said, is the most important issue facing the community.Briley also said that public safety is high on the list of concerns to Nashvillians.
