NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Financial expert Dave Ramsey said there are good deals on items available even during the sluggish economy.

If you have a little money saved up, the question is do you buy the laptop you've been looking at or maybe the brand new truck you've always wanted?

While some big-ticket items like airline tickets are expensive this summer, Ramsey said there are some luxuries that are actually quite affordable right now.

"A lot of the technology items; anything with a chip in it," he said.

This may be the summer of high-tech discounts.

"Televisions are half of what they were this time last year. … Computers and cell phones are way down," he said.

At a time when big vehicles seem to be a purchase of the past, if you are thinking of an upgrade, Ramsey said that this is the summer to do it.

"It's a great time to buy a truck. I bought a truck the other day. They're a deal because they’re gas guzzlers. And if you're not driving it very far and you're doing a little construction work, they're a great deal," he said.

With that said, Ramsey said people should be smart when it comes their disposable incomes.
