NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- There are constant reports about the slumping housing market and the mortgage crisis, but does that mean it's a bad time for you to work on your home?
Financial expert Dave Ramsey said no.For people who want to increase the value of their home, it requires some investment.Ramsey said that if finances are in order, the summer may be one of the best times ever to make the upgrades."If you're thinking about renovating your home -- new carpet, paint, landscaping -- (it is) obviously a great time to do that. A lot of the subcontractors are looking for a little work right now. So there's some good buys on that. Lumber is down. I'm building a new house right now. Great time," Ramsey said. With all of the news about the economy’s status, it's easy to understand why some people may hesitate.Ramsey said the decision is about you and not the rest of the country."If you have the money to do a luxury upgrade to your home like a swimming pool or a home theater or something like that and it's not a strain on your budget, you're not going into debt (and) those types of things and it fits in your neighborhood, the national economy shouldn't enter your decision at all," he said. There are many other good deals when it comes to homes. Ramsey will address those in the next report.
