The Metro Transit Authority is cutting some bus routes, but the Regional Transit Authority is about to add an express bus from Sumner County to Nashville that will give travelers a break from high gas prices.

The cities of Gallatin and Hendersonville will each pay $20,000 to the Regional Transit Authority to launch a one-year test program. If the new route is successful, it could become permanent.

The new route is scheduled to begin in September.

Currently it is unclear the route that the bus will take, but one Regional Transit Authority worker said it will be an express route, making few stops.

The idea is to get passengers to a major hub, so they can take regular buses to the neighborhoods they need to go to.

The Regional Transit Authority said that riding the bus will hopefully cut down on traffic and help curb air pollution.
