There is so much that residents can control when it comes personal spending, but gas prices aren't one of them.

In a special Money Crunch report, Dave Ramsey told Channel 4 News that location does make a difference.

"It's emotional to fill your tank. You have sticker shock, it's incredible," he said.

On average, Ramsey said, Nashville gas is typically the most expensive place to fill up in the entire state. Gas per gallon was about 5 cents cheaper in Chattanooga and 6 cents cheaper in Memphis.

"We've accused the grocery stores of having different prices for years in different communities and gas prices are probably no exception. I've got a lake house in Tullahoma, and I noticed it's cheaper there than here in Brentwood," Ramsey said.

Ramsey said people shouldn’t sweat paying 3 cents more per gallon, because there's nothing drivers can do about it.

Ramsey said that people can control some of the bigger issues in their budgets like groceries.
