NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Bellevue residents are one step closer to seeing a revitalized Bellevue Center Mall.
Video: New Plans To Redevelop Bellevue Center MallMall owners, community leaders and citizens held a meeting at the Metro courthouse Wednesday morning to discuss the mall's future. An attorney representing the mall's current and prospective owners received approval Wednesday from the Industrial Development Board to come back with a plan to improve the mall. The next step is to get a plan on paper that will eventually reflect a new Bellevue Mall.Gayla Pugh of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce said she believed that things were moving in the right direction, and the community was supporting these actions.A California based company is hoping to buy the property from the mall's current owners. The nearly 20-year-old mall has had various anchor stores leave, taking with them major amounts of revenue.Metro councilmen Eric Crafton and Charlie Tygard have been instrumental in the economic development process. They said four years ago the mall was generating $750,000 in property tax revenue, but that figure is currently down by $500,000.Attorney James Weaver represents the mall's owners."I think this gives the purchasers the sense the community is very interested in this project moving forward,” said Weaver.
