NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Some small business owners near Green Halls Mall are looking for new locations.
Video: Neighbor Businesses Hurt By Mall's Land BuyingThe company that owns the mall, Davis Street Land Company, is buying properties along Cleghorn Avenue to make room for an expansion.Mall owners have recently purchased The Club At Green Hills property as well as two office buildings and the La Paz property.Betsy Hurt, owner of Betsy’s Boutique, said moving her business was more than she bargained for.“We have until March 2008 to be out,” Hurt said.Hurt said her landlord recently told her that the building had been sold to Davis Street Land Company.“It has been real hard for us, because if we find something today, our lease is not up until December 2007, and they won’t let us out of our lease,” Hurt said.“Everybody has been asking me for weeks now, ‘Where are you going? Will it be close enough for me?’ So we are trying to accommodate everybody,” said salon owner Bernard Bonnet.At least 15 businesses will be affected by the buyout. A mall representative said they could not comment on ongoing business transactions.Bonnet and Hurt both said they had heard the department store chain, Nordstrom’s, is rumored to be moving in.A Nordstrom’s representative could not confirm or deny plans on a Green Hills location.
