NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Credit card owners can lower interest rates in three minutes just by following a simple script. The fact is anybody can do it.
VIDEO: Script Allows Credit Card Users To Lower Rate"We owed $10,000 (on one card), then owed another one with about $4,000,” said shopper Brad Warden.Warden's bills were not just high because of spending but because of a steep interest rate. It was high until he used the right words."I said that I've been a customer for three years (and) made my payments. (I told them) I've gotten other offers in the mail where they're offering better interest rates. ‘Can you help me?’ " said Warden."They lowered it.”Channel 4 sought other credit card users for this story and wanted to help others make the call to get the same results.Channel 4 gave Cheryl Jones a script, that you can read by scrolling below, that she followed once she called her credit card company."What can I do for you?" asked the operator."I'm calling because I'm a good customer of yours," said Jones."What are you looking for today?" said operator."Anything lower than what I've got," said Jones. And within a few minutes..."I can most definitely get you lower rates. That's not a problem whatsoever," said the operator.“He took me down from a 14.99 to 1.6 percent (interest rate)," said Jones. The gist of the script is the following: Be sure to say that you have received other offers of lower rates and that you've been a good customer.Don't be discouraged if you read the script and the company does not automatically lower your interest rate. That is when experts say to ask for a supervisor.Jones was offered a lower rate but wanted it even lower. She got it simply by talking to a supervisor. With the holiday bills on the way, it is not just about your numbers. It is about your words. Here are the exact words that can save you big money with your credit card company:"Hello, my name is _______________. I've been a good customer, but I'm getting several other offers in the mail from credit card companies promising a lower annual percentage rate. I want a lower rate on my credit card. What can you do to help me?" If you aren't satisfied with the offer they give you, say the following:"Is that the best you can do? May I please speak with your supervisor?"
